Dave H. 1969 Z28 Camaro

My 1969 Z28 Camaro has spent it’s entire life in the Phoenix area, the original owner lived in Scottsdale. The car was built the 3rd week of March 1969, in Los Angeles so it has spent it’s entire life in the southwest. It originally came sporting a white vinyl top and black stripes to go along with a white hounds tooth interior. White stripes weren’t an option from the factory, the car must have looked a little odd with the white top and black stripes. Enough so that the original owner soon painted the car black to include the vinyl top and took it to the track on a regular basis.
By the time John Bauler found the car in 1985 it was in Mesa and on it’s second owner. By this time, like most cars of it’s era, it had been severely used and abused, but it retained it’s original engine and rear end fortunately. John started restoring it in 2003 getting as far as paint and bodywork as well as rebuilding the drive train. I bought the car from John a couple years ago and have pretty much finished the car in the meantime.

This spring Jerry MacNeish certified the car and gave it his stamp of approval that it is a real Z28 retaining it’s original motor. The only changes that have been made to how it came from the factory are the addition of a cowl induction hood, chambered exhaust and the white stripe in place of the original black stripe. The motor retains it’s original heads, intake manifold, carb, and exhaust manifolds. A complete A.I.R. (smog) system was obtained to bring the engine back to how it started life. The transmission is a date code correct M-21 with a blank V.I.N. stamp pad. The rear end is it’s original BU 4:10. It was also an actual original D-80 coded car, which means it came from the factory with both front and rear spoilers. I am currently in the process of getting the engine dialed in so it runs as well as it looks and sounds. I am also in the process of correcting most of the minor items Jerry pointed out as incorrect. It will soon be officially restored as far as I am going to go with it. It is the only 69 Z-28 out there with a Daytona Yellow paint scheme with white stripes/white vinyl top. It makes you wonder why white stripes weren’t an option, as far as I’m concerned it looks awesome and should have been available.
